‘The Squashbuckler Diaries’ are the daily tales of Joy Shelley’s Life in the Dream. The ‘Lost in Dreams’ books will tell the story of what happens to her at ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on. The diaries tell us what happens before, after, and between the books.

S02E311 The Mirror, Part 3, The Dreamers Return

We wait for the Dreamers.

Madelyn appears first on Bonny Revenge’s deck. She says she heard nothing and knows nothing about the broken mirror.

Yumio comes next, flying in from her dream inside the body of one of her flying mecha robots that Joy had made permanent for her.

Yumio says she knows nothing.

Amahle appears on the deck: She heard nothing and knows nothing.

Amahle and Madelyn go on their own to another part of the Dream. Yumio goes to play with her flying mechas on another planet in Justin’s dream until Joy wakes up.

Charlie appears next. “I… don’t know,” he says, concerned. “What, like a whole part of the mirror is missing?”

Master Mind asks him to summon a piece of paper and a marker. The big robot draws the size of the missing piece on the paper.

“That can be used to cut someone,” Charlie says.

“That’s what we’re worried about,” Suzy tells him.

Charlie doesn’t know, and he goes to wake Joy up.

“A broken mirror?” Joy says, surprised. “And you didn’t hear anything?” she looks at Master Mind.

“Nothing.”

“Strange,” she says. Then she shrugs. “I wouldn’t worry about it.”

She goes on to brush her teeth on the plank with Master Mind assisting by listing the ship.

Charlie and Joy play in the clouds. Yumio joins them. After a couple more hours, Justin appears on the deck.

Charlie and Joy immediately come to see him.

“Did you hear about the mirror, Joy’s Dad?” Charlie asks with excitement.

“What about the mirror? What mirror?”

We explain everything to him. He looks surprised. “And no one knows anything about it? No one heard anything about it?”

We tell him that not even Master Mind heard anything.

“Oh. Wow. And you don’t know anything about it, Joy?”

“I didn’t see anything. Just like everyone else.”

Justin nods. “All right. Cool. Well, let’s go on adventure!”

“Wait! Justin!” I remember that sometimes I have to focus Dreamers on one thing. “What about the mirror?”

“I wouldn’t worry about it,” Justin waves his hand.

“But–”

“I wouldn’t worry about it, Dad. Let it go, yeah?” He looks at me and gives me a wink that only I can see. “Everything’s good, right?”

“Riiiight,” I says slowly. “Right.”

“RIght. Well, let’s start the day, then!”
