‘The Squashbuckler Diaries’ are the daily tales of Joy Shelley’s Life in the Dream. The ‘Lost in Dreams’ books will tell the story of what happens to her at ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on. The diaries tell us what happens before, after, and between the books.

#140: Yes-Yes-Yes

Dragon Father picked up 2-year-old Dragon Little. Her legs and feet were so small, then. She was such a tiny human. And she was no doubt light. When she had ridden me, on my dragon body that ist as big as her pirate ship, I did not even feel her. Not the way I would in later years.

Dragon Father picked her up. She had stubbed her toe kicking King Skull in the shin.

“Look at me,” he said, as she was on the verge of tears.

They were both on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge. King Skull, his hands tied, stood to the side, waiting as his two captors dealt with this problem.

“Does it hurt?” Dragon Father asked. “Yes yes yes?” he nodded three times with a high, strange voice. “No no no?” He shook his head three times as he said in a low, strange voice.

“Yes yes yes?” he nodded. “No no no?” he shook his head. “Yes yes yes? No no no? Yes yes yes? No no no?”

Dragon Little began to smile.

“Yes yes yes? No no no? Yes yes yes? No no no?”

Dragon Little laughed as his voice got stranger and stranger. I do not know why, but it made me miss my parents, which I have never seen.

“Yes yes yes?” Dragon Little was now laughing and her pain was clearly forgotten.
“Can I go to prison already!” King Skull shouted.

Dragon Little looked at him and smiled. “Yes yes yes!”
