Sandra takes Luis’ hand. “Luis, we’re going to go to your grandparents’ place!”
“Yai! I’m going to sit in the Archie Bunker chair!”
I look at Suzy in shock, and she stares at me. I have never seen this kid Luis or Sandra. How is my Archie Bunker chair in her dream?
Justin gets close to Sandra. “Sandra,” he says softly. “Honey. I have to go. I have to take them alone.”
She touches his chest intimately. “I can come. I can help.”
Justin looks around as she touches him, and sees that everyone is looking at him. “Can I have some privacy please? Can you not all stare at me like that? Thank you!”
I look down. I see Suzy is looking down. I can’t see what Joy or Master Mind are doing.
“I think this is a dream, Sandra. I think this never happened.”
“What do you mean?”
“Joy, don’t you dare touch Luis!” Justin suddenly yells. I still refrain from looking up.
“As if I would ever touch him!” Joy answers quickly.
“What do you mean?” Sandra asks again.
“I mean… Well, don’t you have to pee? Don’t you have to wake up and pee?”
“What? I…?”
Suddenly the entire hospital disappears. My bed vanishes from beneath me but I land on a soft mattress that I quickly understand Justin created.
We are now on a small island, much like the one Suzy and I live on in Justin’s dream, where our apartment with my Archie Bunker chair is.
“Quick!” Justin says. “Before she comes back! Let’s go!”
He creates three jetpacks on the ground. “Joy, make them permanent. Come on, let’s go!”
As Joy does what she was told, Suzy says, “Son, we have a lot to talk about.”
“We have nothing to talk about, Mom. We will never talk about this again!”
I think we all know that’s not true.
