‘The Squashbuckler Diaries’ are the daily tales of Joy Shelley’s Life in the Dream. The ‘Lost in Dreams’ books will tell the story of what happens to her at ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on. The diaries tell us what happens before, after, and between the books.

#53: The Beeping Nose (In Prison, Part 1)

One day, when Dragon Little was only four years old, in the middle of battle on Dead Skull Island, Dragon Father had been knocked out with knock-out gas. He was frozen, though his eyes could move.

Dragon Little, beside him with a sword and a laser pistol, was quickly overpowered. She was disarmed and grabbed.

The both of them were dragged to a prison cell where they were informed they would see the mysterious Dead Pirate of Dead Skull Island when he ist good and ready.

It was only the first hour of the dream, and Dragon Father was not in any danger of waking up.

The two found ways to pass the time together.

They sat in front of each other, and Dragon Father touched her nose.

“Beeep!” Dragon Father said. “Did your nose make that sound?!”

Dragon Little laughed.

“Let’s see…” he said and tried again. “Beep!” She laughed.

“That’s very strange,” he appeared surprised by this. “Let’s try a short one.” He touched her nose repeatedly quickly six times, “BeepBeepBeepBeepBeepBeep!”

She laughed again.

Now he touched her nose for a long time, “Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!” He stopped when he had to take a big gulp of air.

“Your nose is very strange, Joy,” he told her. “I don’t know what happened to it. Now you try!”

And so they ended up having some quality time together, in the dread pirate’s prison.
