“Of course you’re free,” Justin tells Joy. “You’re more free here than any kid I know in the waking world. Isn’t she, Charlie?”

Joy looks at Charlie expectantly.

“Uhhh…” Charlie is taking this question too seriously. “Sure, she’s free. But I got TV in the waking world. I can see cartoons and–”

“Yeah, yeah,” Justin interrupts him. “But you don’t have adventures in the waking world like we do here, right?”

We are back on top of Justin’s Shroom when Joy suddenly starts talking about everything that’s happened, what Charlie said and what Suzy explained to her.

As she explains, Justin leads Joy back into the tunnel, past the plank, and onto the deck of Bonny’s Revenge.

“Oh my goodness,” he tells her. “That is awful. I never thought about it.”

“Is she right, Dad? Am I that different? Can I never have kids?”

Joy is crying into my chest and doesn’t stop. I hug her with one hand, but awkwardly. I don’t know how to comfort a child who feels responsible for two deaths. I don’t know how to comfort a child who survived a slave camp for a day while figuring out how to save the other children.

What did happen there? I wish she would stop. My shoulder still hurts.

“Little Pirate, if you keep crying, you will make me cry,” says Master Mind. “I do not wish to cry at this time.”

Today Joy decides to play in Charlie’s dream. Justin is off to his secret dream that we’re not supposed to visit but that everyone has figured out he has his dream girlfriend in.

So he left Joy in Master Mind’s care. Master Mind is always ready to leap into action and save Joy from the unexpected dangers of a dream. I join because I want to see as much as possible of my granddaughter for the two of me.

Dragon Little was five years old when she freed a goblin.

As Dragon Father had told her in the beginning of their adventure, bad things have been happening in the Land of the Goblins. Evil tyrants have taken over. They killed male and female goblins that they felt threatened their rule, and put their children in prison.

Joy Shelley, the girl I have come to call Dragon Little, was only a few weeks past being four and a half years old when I saw her do something I have never seen her do.

Her father, Justin Shelley, the one I call Dragon Father, had disappeared at the end of another fun adventure. Another prisoner had been added to the villains in the Infinite Prison in the infinite corridor in the belly of Bonny’s Revenge.

Dragon Little sat on the plank and stared glumly at the ocean.

Then, suddenly, she jumped up to a standing position on the plank, and walked back to the deck. She walked down the stairs which led to the Infinite Prison and out of my sight.
